City of Fremantle
The annual Fremantle Festival is a highlight on the social calendars of many, from Fremantle and much further afield. The festival celebrates the cultural diversity Fremantle, as it showcases art-forms that inspire and amaze festival-goers in many different ways.
We were asked to produce a brand that would be different from anything that had come before it, and would represent the values that the Festival stand for. It was to be clean and visually graphical with a quirky sense of fun. It was to be inclusive and pay homage to the Fremantle environment.
The chosen concept was the bicycle riding fish. It definitely ticked the quirky-fun box, it is strongly graphic and the elements of fish and bicycle are very Fremantle. When combined the juxtaposition is eye catching and humorous. The rainbow colouring draws from the City's new rainbow sculpture which has become the unofficial welcome symbol to the city.
The branding was carried through to invitations, posters, digital ads, website headers, flyers, billboards, magazine ads and the program. All of these projects were successfully undertaken by our team over a relatively short period working closely with the City's festival team. The individual designs were completed to our time line which allowed enough time to co-ordinate production of the various components plus contingencies to ensure all material were received when required.
This was our 5th Fremantle Festival, and it was again great fun working with this event and brand. It put a big smile on my face to watch happy people walking around Fremantle wearing cycling fish T-shirts.
