Moontide Distillery Packaging

We were approached by the Kimberley Spirits Co with the task of both naming and branding their new distillery based in Broome. From this we created the brand Moontide Distillery, which echoes all the elements that make this client unique.

The need for a sea change brought owners Trish and Andrew to the tropical shores of Cable Beach in Broome, Western Australia, where a dream became reality - Broome's first gin distillery. Here, on the edge of the Indian Ocean, Moontide Distillery produces some of Australia's finest gin.

Flametree Creative were tasked to deliver a label series for their unique gin and bitters.

The Brief

After undertaking a brand workshop with the owners which lead us to the new distillery's name, identity and strategy, we were asked to design a label series and associated packaging ready for the launch of the distillery in June 2020.

Working from early concepts, we developed a packaging range that ensured alignment with the new name and brand, as well as honouring the novel nature of the distillery, its owners and most importantly its unique and beautiful location.

The project

To begin this project we fleshed out the special qualities of the Moontide product, and the story behind it, through research and ongoing discussions with the client. This helped take the initial concept through to a fully realised package that reflects the essence of Moontide Distillery and it's distinctly tropical flavour. Prompted by their unique ingredients, coupled with the stunning nature of Broome and the wider Kimberley region, we proposed a packaging design that is both attractive and compelling.

The name, Moontide, captured the image of Broome's famous 'Staircase to the Moon', where the full moon rises above Roebuck Bay and casts its reflection from shore to horizon. Thus the brand developed by Flametree Creative became an integral part of the label design, with its moon symbolically rising over the vivid ochre coastline and turquoise horizon.

From the core set of three labels, further packaging assets have been developed that include special-edition labels, gift, postage and carton packaging as well as a whole suite of advertising assets that is continually expanding with the growth of this young and exciting venture.
