'Finches of Australia'
A new book was recently published by Col Roberts, called 'Finches of Australia'. It is a 450 page coffee table book displaying over 600 stunning bird photographs by the author. Although very much a niche publication, it has been embraced by its audience both critically and through sales.
Destined to become a classic, this is a hard-covered photography book complete with dustjacket and protective French-fold plastic cover featuring for the first time all Australia’s finch species and subspecies.
The Brief
Flametree Creative were tasked with the book design and layout. It had to be clean and simple, to showcase the stunning photos that Col Roberts captured over many years. We started by logically assembling the photos and their related text. Then we created a layout style that could be used to accommodate varying requirements. The layouts are universal and place primary emphasis on the photos themselves.
The final result is a credit to our team members at Flametree who worked on the project. It meets all its essential requirements and also delivers a beautiful publication that is a pleasure to hold and digest.
As lovers of books and book design, we hope we have been able to do justice to an impressive body of work while also relating the individual story behind each photograph.
